"To call Sampson’s Cave majestic is an understatement. The secluded location, yet relative proximity to so many places of natural beauty and amenities surpassed all of our expectations. The house itself is so homely it made us dream of a different life. We had some of the best days of our lives here” January 2021 Air BnB

Sleeping up to 12 guests, Sampson's Cave is a beautiful 7-bedroom house set on a private Cumbrian Estate on the edge of the River Eden in this glorious unspoiled valley. With a huge open plan kitchen and family sized range cooker, this much-loved home is the perfect base from which to enjoy the very best of Cumbria and its local produce.

Reached by a private lane, the only sound is that of the occasional steam train on the nearby Settle-Carlisle line, the house martins flitting from nest to nest, the sheep bleating in the field and pipistrelle bats during the nesting season.   Ideal for family and friends, children can explore freely whilst you relax on the squishy sofas in the spacious living room by the huge open fire. There are much loved antiques, books galore and pale wooden floors with brightly covered kilims. Natural wool carpets lead up to and cover the bedrooms floors which are all individually decorated with quirky features, lovingly collected furniture and furnishings, and all have views across the surrounding fells.

The spacious Living/Dining and Kitchen is open plan and is flooded with light through the original sash windows. With its huge inglenook fireplace and open fire (logs are purchased via our honesty box), this is the hub of the house – you can enjoy the owner’s extensive record collection whilst staying with us  (which we trust you to handle with care) The well-equipped kitchen makes cooking a joy, whilst the wooden refectory dining table has plenty of space for you all to sit around comfortably.  There is a separate snug/living room which is perfect for our younger guests to play at “dressing up” or just escape from the “oldies”.

Upstairs are seven bedrooms – all individually decorated with throws and jolly blankets which contrast with the crisp white Egyptian cotton bedding.  No fighting for the views as all the rooms have them!  Three of the bedrooms have twin beds, two of the bedrooms have king size beds and the other two have regular double beds. There are three well equipped bathrooms, one en-suite.

To the front of the house is a lovely patio with wooden garden furniture – have a BBQ whilst revelling in the seclusion and privacy that Sampson’s offers.  The gardens are fenced and spacious – your only neighbours will be a herd of curious sheep and the odd pheasant that has wondered from the nearby woods.

Sampson’s will embrace you in its charm both inside and out. You will feel very peaceful here!
